When I came up with the idea of writing on this topic, the first thing that came to mind was Newton’s First Law of Motion and I actually found that funny because this is probably the third time I am writing a blog with reference to something I learnt in Physics and Math back in high school. I say that’s funny because during Math/Physics we always used to ask ourselves ‘When would I ever need this information on a regular day?’ Well, somehow I find them useful in random times like these…
Newton’s First Law of Motion states: “Every object persists in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed on it”
That is pretty much how life is too – if you do not make some changes in your life and/or work hard for what you want, you will remain in the same position, you will remain the same and there will be no progression or improvement in your life. We didn’t even need science for that, it’s mere logic but just in case logic doesn’t do it for you, refer back to Newton’s First Law, read it over and over again until it finally clicks.
Another possible reason why you are not moving forward is because you are stuck in the past – you are stuck on plans/dreams that didn’t work out and now you have lost all motivation to get up and try again or pursue your next goal, you are stuck on past lovers who did you wrong and now you feel like you aren’t good enough for anyone, you are stuck on your loved ones who passed away and now you think that your life has no purpose without them.
But do you ever, just for a second, stop and think that it’s time to move on? What are you waiting for? A chance to change the past? Has that moment ever come for anyone? No, you don’t get the privilege to alter what has already happened, what’s done is done now all you can do is face the music and change the future instead.
Avoiding change is a common reason why people tend to stay in the same place. Progression requires change! It does not necessarily mean change of physical location, it also means change of mindset and change of habits/routines.
Evaluate what you do on a daily basis and how you think too because those minor activities can actually predict where your life is headed – if you aren’t doing things to better your mental and physical health, learning a new skill or working on your goals there’s no possible way you can really make some progress in your life.
You are not going to move forward in life if you constantly feel like everyone is ahead of you and you have no chance of catching up. Comparison is the killer of progression! Shift the energy and focus you have on other people’s successes towards yourself because you need it more.
It’s time to hype yourself up, life isn’t about nurturing that bruise you got from an obstacle, it’s about saying, “Ouch!” and limping forward right away.
Stop sabotaging yourself, the mere fact that you have goals and you know you are not where you want to be should be enough motivation for you to do something about it. Start putting in the work – you know exactly what you need to do so get on with it.
That’s it for now,
