We are literally bombarded with motivational quotes, TedTalks and inspiring people every second of our days but that doesn’t always convinces us to jump up and start working on our assignments or our personal projects and business plans. Usually things that are supposed to motivate us end up making us feel so behind and as a result we just want to go back to bed because when you are sleeping you don’t have to think about what you should be doing but not doing.
As weird as it is, the truth is that we can only be motivated if we really want to – no amount of positive quotes can actually motivate you if you are not seeking motivation. With that said, motivation can be passed on but it really needs to start within and here are some ways you can make that happen…
- Follow the Relevant
On social media, follow people/pages that are always on the move, always coming up with different ideas and doing what you love too. We have pretty much made it seem as if social media is all bad but once you know how to use it and get the hang of it, you will see how beneficial it can be to your personal growth. So, if you are into photography, fishing, architecture or event planning, follow those pages, reach out to them and learn how to do what they do. This will inspire you and keep you on your toes.
- Plan Ahead
Every night, try to plan for the next day and/or week. Plan your outfit – have it ironed and ready for you to jump into in the morning. Plan when you are going to exercise, set a date and time for when you will work on your tasks. When you have made plans, stick to them – this is more helpful if you are a professional procrastinator. Yes, it is easy to just ignore the reminder on your phone reminding you of what you have to do but again this goes back to what I said in the beginning, nothing can motivate or help you if you aren’t willing to be motivated.
- Make To-Do Lists
Making to-do lists is basically like the most important thing to do if you are a ‘beginner’ at motivating yourself. The best thing about making a list of things to do is that when the day is over and you realize that you have ticked off everything on your to-do list, you honestly feel like you have your life together just from doing that for one day so imagine how good you will feel everyday if you make the list and commit to getting things done. Start small though, don’t overwhelm yourself on day 1 by creating a list of 13 things to do (that’s the level I am on now haha), start by writing down 4 or 5 simple but important things and keep going in that pace until you feel the need to level up.
- An Affirmation
Always remind yourself (out-loud) that you are doing the best you can. Beating ourselves up for not being at the top is a common behavior but you have to constantly remind yourself that you are doing all that you can. Not only will that motivate you but it will also comfort you if you end up not getting what you want. So if you genuinely work hard and start feeling like giving up or start having a meltdown, repeat this several times: I am doing the best that I can.
Hey listen, taking a rest does not necessarily mean that you have lost motivation, a rest is crucial and also quite helpful but feeling as though you are not good enough is a sign of losing motivation. You won’t be amazingly good at something in the first week or the second one or in a month but with consistent self-motivation you can definitely make it to the top all by yourself.
That’s it for now,

Yes!!!! I love this! I am an avid user of to-do lists, I am addicted to that rush of energy I get when I tick a particularly hard task off of my list. Great tips, will definitely be using some in the future! x
Same! I make a list of things to do every night and it is so refreshing to just get things done because for a second you feel like you are winning at this life thing. Haha. Thanks for reading sis❤️
👋🏿👋🏿👋🏿Apt apt! Someone I know said he hates giving motivational talks because they create temporary euphoria.
Great lessons Miss Khuzwayo
Oh yes that was such an accurate way to put it. He was definitely right, listening to and reading motivational stuff does get us amped for that moment but as soon as we move on to the next content we have already lost all that energy and motivation.
Thank you for sharing that Deshi✨
So motivating tips and of course you need to follow people who are making it out there so that you can be inspired to reach your full potential.
It doesn’t get truer than that😅👌
Amen and well said! You made a crucial point in that we need to be willing. Not everyone that is alive is truly living. Thank you for sharing.😊💐
Yuup! Motivation is all around us but it won’t have any effect if we don’t put in any effort✨. Thank you Cherylene💕
My pleasure!😊
Great tips, I like my daily “to do” list, it keeps me organized and less likely to forget something, although I have to admit that the “procrastination” gene 🙂 sometimes overrides the list. I also like to daily say affirmations, it keeps me aware of what I want. Thank you
😅I’ve never really been a procrastinator but lately that’s all l ever do. But making to-do lists helps me a lot. Thanks for stopping by Masha❤
Lovely tips! I like the idea to affirmation to aid with the organisational side of keeping on top of things. I’m going to try that next time I write my to do list 🙂
Affirmations are so helpful and necessary hey. Thanks for stopping by☺💕
